A 24 year old man presents to your clinic complaining of painful muscle cramps when walking eight flights of stairs to his new apartment. On further history taking, you learn that he also experiences these severe muscle cramps after lifting weights in the gym. On several occasions, he has had reddish-purple urine after exercising. His blood work showed normal liver enzymes, no rise in serum lactate after strenuous exercise and elevated serum creatine kinase even at rest.
