59 yrs old pt with progressively worsening shortness of breath over 6 months and marked limitation of activity. You suspect congestive heart failure. PE shows no murmurs rubs. whats best initial test

1.Echo

2.electrocardiogram.

3MUGA scan

4 stress test

this is also a kaplan qbank question. I also chose EKG thinking this should be the initial test no matter what the disease is but teh explanation said EKG wouldnt tell anything in CHF and you should choose ECHO..so according to kaplan answer is ECHO

echo...ekg for ccf doesn't show anything!

but if the CHF is due to MI then ekg is imp to rule out the cause

However the patient had the complaint of SOB for 6 months so very doubtful that it was due to a MI, so echo would make more sense

if he had ccf due to MI they would have mentioned in past HX...since it's not mentioned take it as not being the cause...there are many other causes of ccf
