Like so many I have been reading posts to get some inspiration everyday and to push myself to study. Its been a long road for me but today I am determined to get this over with. I have been on and off for 3 years now and its now or never. I have been reading on and off and am ready to get into so some serious studying. My tentative date is July 15th. Ill be done with my first read mid Feb and I hope to follow a strict schedule to stay on board. I have a toddler who needs me and Im torn b/w him and step 1 but I reaize the only way for me to be at peace with all of this is to get my exams out of the way. We have all worked very hard through out our academic years and cant just give up. One has to hope and dream and if not for anything else I want my children to be proud of me after all I am going to be setting examples for them.To all us moms out there we can do it! Please pray for me and wish me luck. I am going to try to write everyday. I am wrapping up Anatomy by the 1st of Feb and will do questions every night.

Well I did about 3 chapters in anatomy and will start Neuro tomorrow and am giving it 5 days. I want to finish up Behavioral Science at night before I sleep. It seems like an easy read. I have Pharma and Patho left and want pay close attention to Patho. I have Goljans lectures and Im sure that will help. Good luck everyone!

Hi all...didnt do as much as I should have. Hubby's promotion was announced so we celebrated...Now i have to finish up what I left yesterday as well. Baby is doing good about spending time with his dad which he never did before. Im cutting back on cooking and cleaning as well and tell my self this is only temporary and everyone will manage just fine. The exam is the goal right now. Focus , focus , focus!!

Doing good so far and actually sitting longer stretches. I remembe Dr. Goljan saying in the live lectures we all had ADHD because we would turn around to see who was coming in everytime the door opened! I have started Neuro and plan on finishing Wednesday.

Close to finishing up Neuro...Its really good in Kaplan. I had done it before from Hi Yield but I think Kaplan is much better conceptually. At night I have been doing some Behavior and an idea Id like to share is to watch pasrts of the video lectures where you don't understand something. Its really helpful. Also for those with kids it helps me to put on the videoa on the computer and put some TV on for them and you can maybe squeeze in a lecture or two.

Finished Neuro and am starting Pharmacology today and planning on finishing it up in 7 days. What I do is divide a certain amount pages I need to do to finish in 7 days. It keeps me on track that way and I push myself to finish. I plan on doing the first 40 pages from kaplan npotes with additions to First Aid so i dont have to touch the books for my next reads.

Hi, Good job. My 2 cents, instead of cooking, cleaning ,leave it, eating out[healthy way], so save dish washing time too. OR let them eat out , take out for you while you study at home or all have take out or take out with mis & match home food, save time to cook all. GL

You are so right shwe and thanks Drswapna05. I have left everything. I could never leave the dishes in the sink but now I do. I used to bag lunch for my husband everyday and would cook every night. This exam is an investment. Spend the money now and study because it will be worth it in the end. A year of your life dedicated to these exams is more important than doing the dishes if you see it all long term. I didnt before but thank God have realized this now. Even the the baby I spend good quality time now then i did before b/c I used to feel so bad that I wasnt studying. And now with studying I feel good and am actually giving quality time to my loved ones. Good luck to you all and if I can help in any way please don't hesitate to ask.

Ok so I did the first 2 chapters of Pharma...not much today but I think I have a few hours I can pull tonight. Put the baby to sleep and I have till 1 am to study b/c he will be up at 6am I plan on finishing up Pharma in 8 days. I know its a bit far fetched but Im going to try my best. For light reading before I go to bed I read a few pages of Behavior. Closest I can feel to reading a magazine in the world of step 1! I also treated myself to Gray's Anatomy today ...If only doing a surgical residency was so much fun! For all you Grays fans...what was George thinking?!? Good luck and good night!

So you are too a Gray's fan! Well, must admit, it is well written medical soap opera. I usually watch it online( For your info , http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing ), don't like all the commercials on TV. Will watch it tomorrow online, now I can not tell you my opinion about Goerge. Hm, pharma in 8 days, you must be good in it, or it is your 2nd read?!

Yes I Tivo it as well ... yes it is sort of my second read...I have been studying on and off for 3 years now. And I had an attempt at Step 1 in 2002 and failed. I gave up medicine for a bit and was so discouraged I didnt want to go thru the misery again. Got married and had my son and let my husband work his career and now he's done and after some soul searching I realized this is what I am supposed to do and have come back at it with determination. Its not impossible its really how you tackle this exam. I think the USMLE appears larger than life to us all especially as an IMG but its very doable and we mustn't be afraid of it. Now I think the more I push the sooner Ill be free of this self imposed jail sentence

Dear Sis, No news usually good news. Sorry to hear that you're not well. Me too not feeling well. So cold on Sunday, but went out as I said for obligate gathering, ends up whole day there, helping them alot. Then got flu, ache & pain, headache since. Better today. Cannot try new chapter with headache, so just re-review the whole sections. Surprisingly , found out it is better style of studying. Will post in my journal later. Wish you get well soon. Dress warm even at home, drinks alot of warm coffee, tea, rest in between a lot too. Do not worry, will cathch up in no time when fully recovery.
 Yours, Shwe

Hey Girl, what happend ? You need to kill that flu bug, and get well soon, before your baby gets it ! Drink hot tea, and rest in the bed as much you can. Don't worry about the study, it has not meaning to open the book when you feel sick, you will catch up later. Wish you a speedy recovery and take care for now.
