Hi..I just wanted to make some things clear..All your inputs are appreciated.
regarding in ethics in few confusing situations..

1.A colleague impaired or substance abused - First thing to do is : To insist him to leave the habit or report to program director??

2.A 16/F pregnant pleading you for abortion and not to tell her mother.Correct thing to do ??

3.A patient refuses to know the diagnosis of his biopsy results but the results have come malignant.Wat to do?

4.A ovarian tumor found during a laparotomy surgery for tubal ligation-Should we have to remove or leave it aside since we didn't get a informed consent??

It would be really helpful if somebody could give short answers to these questions.
Thanxsmiling face

I`m pretty sure about the last 3 answers smiling face ...

1. confused as far as I remember, I solved a Q in Kaplan B/S book, to report to program director (person directly in charge of him/her)

2. Find out if the girl is emancipated or not, if not, do not perform abortion, if emancipated, do whatever she wants

3. Address the issues that making the patient to deny to hear the results/ determine the basis of his refusal ~ i.e. talk to him about it before you tell him the results( delay until he is ready to receive the news)

4. Leave it aside. The patient must wake up and give informed consent for it.

Thanks clozapine...

So,To find out whether the girl is emancipated,We must be given some clues in the question like -living alone(yes),living with boyfriend(no),living with husband(yes)..So When it is NO,should tell her mother about the abortion. If yes,Should go ahead and perform abortion..Is that right?

Thanx a lot clozapine!

One more to add...

*A psychiatric patient in an asylum,Not a ready harm to others,is refusing treatment....Idea of management???

Absolutely nod

Being a psychiatric patient in mental asylum does not necessarily means s/he is leaglly incompetent unless other wise given in question. If he is an adult and can meet the standard (decided only by court/judge, not by physician) for competence to make health related decisions, and the situation is non-emergency, s/he can definitely refuse treatment and we have to follow his/her instruction.

First 4 questions were answered perfectly, hers some addtional knowledge . Pay attention to kaplans ehtics lectures!! Very important Palani !!
Emacipated minor may be anyone serving in the military, married , or living alone and taking care of themselves.

Mental patients are not incompetant, and competance is a legal issue determined by the cours unless , the patient attempt suicide, is grossly psychotic or dysfunctional, or is unable to communicate with a physician. If you cant figure it out, aaume competance

Pay attention to kaplan ethics lecturs Palani!!! Very importnat

Emacipated minors are : 1) living alone and taking care of their financial and day to day responsibilities, 2) married, 3) in the military. Any one will make you emacipated. Pregancy doesnt unless you are doing number 1 , having a child doesnt either unless you are doing number 1.

Competance: legal matter unless the person has 1) commited suicide, 2) is Grossly psychotic or dysfunctional, 3) patients state prevents simple communication.

Clozapine did a good job explaining, i thought there additions would further clarify.
