A 25-year-old female presents to her obstetrician because she wants to make sure that it is all right for her to become pregnant. History reveals that she fainted once while jogging two weeks ago. She also reports lightheadedness and shortness of breath with only a small amount of exertion. The patient also reports that she becomes fatigued easily, which concerns her. She denies use of tobacco, alcohol, and recreational drugs. Both of her parents are in their 60 s and healthy. The patient's pulse is 76, and her blood pressure is 118/75. The physical exam is remarkable for a crescendo–decrescendo systolic ejection murmur. It is auscultated best to the right of the sternum and radiates to her neck.
