Thanx everybody  ,

I wish the best for u too, actually I spent about 4 months preparing for the exam, I used the blueprints for pediatrics, ob/gyn, psychiatry, neurology, and cardiology, for internal medicine I used cecil essentials, and my own lecture notes from the university, coz I thought blueprints is rather superficial for medicine

For MCQs I used NMS, Mock exam, A&L, kaplan Q book, Kaplan simulated CD, and I also did the last 400 Q in cracking the boards.

In addition to First Aid, which was my best study companion, of course in addition to being on this great forum which gives u support when ur down, and advice when u need that smiling face

congrats but I am not clear about internal medicine? you mean you did neurology, and cardiology from blue print and rest from cecil essentials? Please explain it for me. Thanks

  #9

Hi Helpful,

yes I did cardiology, and neuorolgy from blue prints, both are excellent books, esp. neuro., and the rest from cecil essentials and first aid, I know cecil may sound too much, but it s an enjoyable book, especially great in infectious dis., nephrology....
I also relied on some of my undergraduate lectures.
I believe the most important part of ur preparation in medicine is doing plenty of questions coz no matter how much u studied u ll still find new information in MCQs.... hope that helps smiling face
GOOD LUCK grin

thanks cipro2006 smiling face

Well cardiology in the B print internal medicine but what about neurology is it in a separate book? is cardiology is also in separate book?

  #12

yes helpful, both cardiology, and neuorology are seperate books each about 150-200 pages, they are easy to follow and contain high yield information!

  #13

Thanks for the information but I had B Print with its first chapter is of Cardiology. Should I follow this chapter or get that book. Keep this thing in mind that I had time but not much (3 month)

  #14

well,
This decision is yours to make, as for me I found that cardiology is not enough in Bprints of IM, besides the cardiology book is easy to follow you can read it in one week time, u may choose either, but if u chose not to buy the book, make sure to do plenty of questions, especially those involving types of shock and the use of PAWP, I got plenty of Q about that!

  #15

Thanks cipro2006 please keep on advising us about these things.

Congrad. grate score.
I read on this forum that someone recommended Diagnostic Imaging by Peter Armstrong
How useful is this info?
You said that to read Blueprints Cardiology is not enough, what is?
What would you recommend to review?

Hi Cipro2006,
Your score inspires me. I really need to do well on Step 2. I'm thinking about going into Anesthesia, which is becoming more and more competitive. My Step 1 score is not pretty at all!
I plan on taking the exam this July. I have a 6 week Surgery and 6 week OB rotation coming up. I want to start seriously studying for Step 2 before and during these rotations. I will not have had Neuro or Psych before I take Step 2. Also, cardio, pulmonology, and GI are difficult subjects for me. I plan on doing Qbank for 3 months and reading Boards & Wards. I am also doing on-line questions from McGraw-Hill because they're free until May 31 and seem pretty good. Any advice that you would like to give me on preparing for Step 2 would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

The USMLE McGraw-Hill website is:
http://books.mcgraw-hill.com/medical/usmleasy/ind...

You have to register(e-mail, address, phone, etc.) and then you have access to free USMLE step 2 like questions until May 31.

I found questions on usmleeasy.com quite good. But I run into a problem. If you try to do a lot of questions from one subject they repetitively give you the same questions in every set of 100, if you choose all available questions (400-500), the questions will be downloading so slowly, so it is becoming waste of time. How do you deal with it? :?:
