In Reiter's syndrome, there is a gonococcal urethritis that is followed about 2 weeks later by arthritis and conjunctivitis. I was under the impression that the urethritis clears up and THEN the arthritis/conjunctivitis appears (similar to lots of other autoimmune diseases like post-strep glomerulonephritis and Rheumatic Fever). However a UW question I got described a man who got gonococcal urethritis and presented with discharge from the urethra+athritis+conjunctivitis. I'm confused because I thought that on Reiter's the urethritis is not there at presentation. Did I understand this wrong?
