Urology has its own, independent match. Its a diff program, very very competitive. I think you should apply directly to it.

if you love it, are good in it and hav experience in it then stick on it. try to hav american experience and more importantly, stress any part of your application, ur cv, ps and interview on your hands-on skills. what you've done with the great urologist and what you can do is your key of success. dont be afraid to say it to everyone

hi, wamba: sorry to drift away a little bit. I heard you would have IV at metrowest, MA. How is it going? I interviewed there. It is ok program to me. The PD told me he only interviews totally 50 candidates. I forgot to ask how many he is going to rank.

I didn't IV. My Iv was scheduled for Jan 22nd but after my first 2 ivs (jan 10th and 12th) I have been offered 2 prematches. I accepted the one in Maimonides and cancelled all the rest. I know Metrowest because I spent 3 days for observership this month. I was suppose to observe all Jan and attend Iv but I cancelled this too. It is a good program. The PC, the vice PD and PD struggle for the title of the greatest person of the program. They are simply fantastic. It is nice to have people like that in a program. They are very close to residents and concerned about their needs. The lectures and conferences are very interesting because the program is small and there is a very nice interaction between residents and the faculty who leads. Most of the attendings are helpful and can be relied on anytime, even at 2 am in the morning. The residents really get along and help each other. As in most programs, what you learn depends on your initiatives. If you want to be the best, you will be the best. Everyone must moonlight from the second year!!! everyone!!! To me, this was a good thing. the program is busy but you dont kill yourself and you have a life outside. The drawbacks: 1. when you are on call, you sign out at noon (3 hours). its ok because you have a nightfloat system that helps you. 2. if you are IMG on H1, you will hardly get a fellowship; 3. Framingham is expensive because you are close to Boston but your stipend is not very high. Furthermore, you have to contribute to most of the benefits. If you have a family and one stipend it will be hard to leave there. Moonlight from the second yr could be of help 4. Framingham is not the most interesting place in the world but you are still close to BOston (30min)

Thanks. Wamba. I knew you should be prematched. Congratulations. And I am happy that I have less competitive candidates to compete in Metrowest. I sent an email to claim my continued interest in that program. But no reply yet. My interview there, overall, is OK. But the vice PD speaks English with some strong accent. I have to ask again to know what he is asking. And he was tired at the time to interview me. One candidate was kept there longer than me for something secret to me. Another candidate did observership there. Both of them from the same area as the vice PD. I have no idea how they would evaluate me. I am not saying the process should be fair, especially considering that I only have mediocre scores and application package. But feel not favorite and uncertain is really bad.

The score is good to get interview. Once you are there, you all compete from the same line. The problem with Metrowest lies on the fact that there are only 8 positions and some of them, 3,4,5 or 6 etc. (I dont know the exact number) are given in prematches. This means only 2,3 or 4 positions are given in the match. I would personally have considered Metrowest only if I was offered a prematch during my observership because I know they will fill only very few positions in the match. But I didn't stay enough (only 3 days). This is why the observership is to be done there. You observe them, they observe you and they offer you a position if they like you. If you speak spanish or more important, portugese, you are 80% in. Many residents are offered prematches only because they speak portugese because the Brazilian population in Framingham is one of the biggest in the US. And many brazilian applicants know that so they apply there. So the competition is unfair. I wouldn't hold my breath on Metrowest If I were you. Unless you get a prematch.

Thanks, Wamba. I didn't know they send out so many prematchs. When I asked if they give out prematch, the PD said it is very early for the interview season. I wasn't asking prematch there. I was concerned how many would go into match. Like LICH, only 1 goes to match. So, now, like what you said, I wouldn't hold my breath to that program.

Currently it's listed as 8 position for match on NRMP. Maybe they haven't updated yet or they change their rules. Should have check back later Good luck!
