Whats #1 cause of malabsorption in USA?

Even though UC is more common than Crohn's d i would say the 1cause is Crohn's

celiac sprue is the #1 cause of malabsorption. its just a fact, it doesnt need any explanation. If u count all pts with malabsorption, in most of them the cause is celiac sprue. I doubt they will ask this on usmle as no more usmle asks such direct questions but its good fact to know.
Below r some general points:
People with celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein in wheat, rye, barley, and possibly oats.
Celiac disease damages the small intestine and interferes with nutrient absorption.
Treatment is important because people with celiac disease could develop complications like cancer, osteoporosis, anemia, and seizures.
Diagnosis involves biopsy.
Because celiac disease is hereditary, family members of a person with celiac disease may need to be tested.
Celiac disease is treated by eliminating all gluten from the diet. The gluten-free diet is a lifetime requirement.

loser girl. I wud like 2 add something here,

We had a study conducetd on <15 yrs school childr in India, we wanted2 cover as many childr as we cud, so we went 2 schools, day care centres , slums n where not , n ultimatlely, when we wud screen high risk childr . wth some deficiencies o failuire2 grow, we took some bld samples , surprisingly it gave results 4 an enzyme... can U name that one ? & once we had the levels we did endoscopies on them ..... we did find a positive co relation wth Celiac , endosc results n enzyme levels !
