medication is prescribed for a 79 y.o. man who complains of difficulty in starting to urinate and in completely emptying his bladder.
One week after the pt begins taking the medication he returns to his physician complainingof dizziness on rising from a seated or reclining position.

Which of the following is being disrupted by this medication
a. activation of Gq protein
b. activation of Gs
c. inactivation of Gi
d. stimulation of guanylyl cyclase

A. he as given an alpha 1 blocker, these reeptors (a1) normally activate the gq-phopholipase c , pathaway. These meds are great in treatinf bph and htn together but we have to be carful about first dose synchope and orthostatic htn. Even though it causes less Orthostatic Htn then non specific agonists!!
