i did Kaplan simulation yesterday
lousy 66%sad
but when i started to check the correct answers i found quite a few questions that didn't make any sence
for example there was a Q with electrophoresis chart and blot analysis, and on electrohoresis there were only 2 lines - one higher and one lower
in the explanation for the correct answer they go: evidently, these two proteins have the SAME SIZE...
or they give NADPH oxidase level is very low and POSITIVE NTB test
and it happen to be CGD of childhood
or they give you Cu accumulation in tissues with low ceruloplasmin and in explanation they say - it can not be Wilsons because in Wilsons ceruloplasmin ELEVATED
and there were more, i just can not remember

having all that i have a question: how reliable this test is? was it worth doing it? or is it me all messed up?
so much frustration....
very disappointed......

most people are not attempting it these days
coz its way off the current pattern of actual exam and it was mad in 2001 six years back and the actual exam has moven far ahead so the myth that we had in our country that kaplan simulator score plus 20 doesnt hold significance any more

concentrate on other modes of assessing such as NBME or others

Dont worry babydoc, If you look at the score thread you will see that the high scores in this forum vary tremedously on the kaplan simulations. I think from 64% all the way up to upper 70s. Concentrate on the NBME and remember that the kaplan test will often be much harder then the test you will get in the real exam. If anything this may be the disapointment that makes you realize you need to put in more time and effort. Hunker down and give it your all, you will be fine!! Can I ask you which year you kaplan simulated is from ?

Babydoc: I did 90% of the questions of q-bank, and the day before my step 1 my average was 71% and I was freaking out. My score in the real test was 92, so maybe this can give you an idea to assess your preparation. Best wishes!
