Hi I am going to US on L1A and my wife who is a doctor would be accompanying me on L1 A dependent. In sucha circumstance, is it possible to get a residency match? How long does it take to convert L1 dependent to student visa. What are the other options available? Thanks in advance RK

You can't do residency on a student visa. You will be in residency on an H1b visa or a J1 visa (for the most part).

I am actually on an L-2. If you have an L-1A she can get an L-2 and an EAD (which is not even necessary any more but it might be better to be safe than sorry)... With EAD she can work unrestrictedly ( I am starting residency on an L-2/EAD this June) so she can apply/work as a resident as well, as long as the L-2 is valid. With the L1-A (intra company transfer + upper management/executive not the other L1 visa ) you can apply for GC without ever having to go through labor certification if you can prove that before the transfer you were an executive within the same company for at least 1 year in your home country. (Please check this info with an immigration lawyer since I am just an other "L-2-doctor-wife" not an expert...) I hope this helps. Good luck! Mufurc
