I was on fire today! I read 73 pages, and it feels so good! YIPPIE!!

  #42

I am 30 pages away from finishing the surgery book. I have to say, the second part with the vignettes is pretty good to fix the concepts of the first part, at least for me. It helps to pinpoint what is key to get to the diagnosis and differentials in a very simple fashion and what is the appropiate next step in treatment. Let's see how I do with the questions. I think I might finish this book tomorrow at noon, and perhaps do some questions too. Thanks to the winter storm for keeping me home studying!!

  #43

how was your experience with psych questions cris?

  #44

I did well. I like Psych, and the ethics questions are easy to answer based on the kaplan prep for step 1. I have not done a lot of them, they were mixed with internal medicine, but I think that I won't read that book in the second round. I will dedicate that time to do questions instead, and I believe that will be more productive for me.

CristinaCol:

I like to read your prep. journal. You are really motivated! I am wondering do you watch the DVD from Kaplan? I feel it took me too much time. what do you think? I talk you later.

  #49

ZHOUFG, I am planning on seeing the dvd's, but I know is gonna be time-consuming. The thing is, they are audio-visual, it is different than reading and I do believe your brain storage that information in a different way. It was different to me for step 1 to read the book by myself, and afterwards attending the live lectures. I hope my advice was helpful, and thanks for dropping by. It is motivating for me to know from "the competition"smiling face , that means, to know that I am not alone in this quest for a residency. Good luck!

I am on page 75 of the pediatrics book. Keeping this pace I think I can finish this book in 5 or 6 days. We are over the hump with the winter, it will be nice and sunny this week, but I will do my best to stay indoors. cool

I have not found my motivation today, and it has been a superhuman effort to read 10 pages this morning. I hope the afternoon goes better.

  #52

I took a power-nap yesterday afternoon, and it carried me all the way to page 112. Today Mrs Motivation is back, so hopefully it will be a productive day. To everyone out there studying CK, go for it!!grin

  #53

Made it to page 149, but possibly read some more tonight. nod

  #54

Well, it is official, I just applied for CK and CS. I chose the Jun-Aug period, and will take CS around July. This add some extra-pressure on me because rescheduling is not an option if I want to be ready for match'08. I have faith God will help me to score even higher this time, and His power will help all of us in this forum. Let's do it!!

  #55

shaking head I have not read a single page since Friday. Shame on me disapproval I am planning on catching up in the next 3 days by reading at least 60 pages per day. Hope evryone had a more productive weekend than mine!

I am on page 206 of pediatrics, that means I've read about 55 pages so far. The book has 253 pages, so I am very confident that I can finish it tomorrow. I got my confirmation for the CK and CS. I am very excited for seeing my goals closer and closer.

I have taken the day to get informed regarding the LOR. It takes some good hours to organize all those papers, so I thought it would be better to take care of that early, since I have to send them back to my country, so my teachers can update them. Do the IMG actually need the MSPE? or just a plain Dean's LOR would do it? In any case, I think I'll better go for the MSPE, since I have plenty of time. I will start to study pediatrics in about an hour, and should be done by American Idol

  #58

what is MSPE??? We need dean's letter during application process of ERAS only no?

  #59

MSPE means Medical Student Performance Evaluation. It is the former Dean's letter. In the website of ERAS you can find the guidelines to prepare it, is a 13 pages PDF that I am going to send to my dean's office, so she can do it right. I have read in the forum conflicting things: that you are suppose to get it being a student, that you still can get it after graduating, that IMG's don't need it, that if you don't scan it in your application the ECFMG will fill the space with a blank letter so is not a problem....but in any case, I decided to get that MSPE, who knows if it helps me. I have no USCE, so a good recommendation from my school may be the push that put me through a residency.
