What did you tell the immigration officer at the port of entry when you came for interviews? Did you say that you were going to visit or did you say that you were going to attend interviews? And how long did they let you stay in the US?

you can attend your interviews on your B1/B2 visa, so you can stay in the US as long as your visa is valid, but you may just stay in the states for the time period you need to be there for your interviews. You can say either of them, vacations, visiting a friend, job IVs, etc, etc.

You can only stay for the period stated in your I-94 form given by the officer at port of entry. The expiration date in the visa only tells you the last day you can use the visa to enter the US, not how long you can stay every time you enter.

So, again, what did you tell the officer at the port of entry was your reason to come to the US, visiting or interviews? And how long did they let you to stay?

I'm asking this because I've heard that depending on the reason you give, they let you stay for different amount of time, maximum is 6 months.

oooooh, smiling face. The I-94 form doesn't have any blank space for you to write how long are you going to stay in the U.S. or your departure date. They only ask you how long are you planning to stay at the port of entry and maybe they do type it in their computers.

-I said I was going to visit a friend of mine (true) and attend some interviews. and then he asked me what for, what was my profession?, what specialty I was pursuing?, etc. So, basically the truth.

-they let me to stay for 4 weeks, I was planning to stay 5 weeks and that's what I said when I entered in the U.S. but I changed my mind, cancelled/moved 1 interview, so they were 4 weeks only.

You don't have to write anything on the I-94. The officer writes until when you are allowed to stay in the US. So did the officer stated that you were allowed to stay 4 weeks in the I-94.

I am from Panama and you?

Where did you study your med school?

What specialties are you applying/did you get IVs?

Studied in Panama. Applied only to anesthesiology. No invitations. So preparing for Step 3 in case I have to apply again next year.

So did the officer stated that you were only allowed to stay in the US for 4 weeks in the I-94?

well, as you can see, I wasn't aware he wrote my likely departure date on the form, so I honestly don`t know. But I do know that there wasn't any problem traveling for IVs for 4-5 weeks with my tourist visa. Well, if you don't receive any IV, you can try for the scramble, you don't lose anything. Good luck!

So, how did you know they let you stay for 4 weeks, or you just assumed it?

the time period one gets to stay on the visit it determined by the date that the officer puts at the port of entry. it has nothing to do with the time on ur visa.. u can hav a 10 yr multiple entry but doesnot make a difference for that visit.

i would suggest that you honestly tell them that u will be attending interviews n also the post match scramble. and also giving your stpe 3 during the same time period. incase they ask u the time u nedd( which is unlikely) tell them 3 months.,till end of march

also make sure u have some place of stay decided incase they ask.. like with whom n all that

hope it helps

Thanks, any more advice please?

i have a multiple entry b2 visa.on my last visit i stayed in the u.s for 4 months.I need to go back to the u.s soon .hence i wanted to know if there is any fixed time gap required between the two trips....i am not sure as some pple say if u ve multi entry u can go whenever u want while some say u need 6 mths gap beween visits.

plz advise.thank u

silenced MD just tell them the truth. if u r goign for cs but plan to take intervoiews in the same trip just tell me that.

chemamr u can see ur passpot to see how much u were allowed to stay in US inside the entry stamp ther wud be another stamp black in color saying ur status as B1 or B2 and there will be a date there that wud be last date to leave US. they not only stamp ur last date to leave the coutry on I 94 but also stamp it on ur passport.

i know a copuple of ppl who recently tarvelled to US to take step 2 cs and they also wated to take step 3 in the same visit they explained to the officer on airport that the cs resutl will be out in 2 months and then they plan to register for step 3 and take step 3 in the same visit and both of them got sufficeint duration allowed in us to take step 3.

hi gv5,

There is no fixed time gap needed between two trips. Only criteria is your reason must be sensible each time you face officer at prot of entry, and always be honest. Hope this suffices your doubt.

GL!

be truthful during your visa interview. You can screw your future if you lie. If you go for interview the go for interview
