Hello there,

I would like to ask you if you know of any candidates who backed out of verbal prematch acceptances? I know it would be very unethical, but is it illegal? What can happen to the candidate? Please don't judge me wrong because of this question! It is just hypotethical, and you know sometimes you have to look out for your best interest first!

Thank you for your input, and don't hate me!

Regards and best of luck to all of us!

A.

not ethical but legal

why should we hate you? you didn't beat us, stole our money or slept with our wives/hubby. Yes you should try to be ethical and respect your word. But you should also consider your personal interest, which has priority. Nobody wants to spend many years when he doesnt want to. So if you dont, give your reasons, apologize a hundred times and go on. It does happen to see programs backing out of their previous commitments. These behaviors (your hypothetical one and others) are not nice but you know, nobody is perfect. Until you dont kill anyone or sleep with our wives/hubbies its ok.

Let the program know as soon as possible so that they can offer your place to another deserving applicant.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for replying. I am not in the above mentioned situation, it is just that I am playing these scenarios in my head. I don't think I would be able to do such a thing as backing out of a deal like this be it even only verbal. Thank you though for your input. I think I have already said good bye to my number one, and now I am trying to see if I can at least get my number 2, although it doesn't seem that way. That's life!

Best of luck to you all!

A.

hi friscan
I know what you are saying. these things happen. I would feel very uncomfortable backing out of a oral arrangement too.

Hey Dev,

How is it going? I hope everything is going your way! Best of luck to you!

This past year since last Match has been a heck of a year, I think I grew ten years older in the meantime with all the stuff that I've been going through!
