During my interviews I have been talking to people and i think it would be interesting to put in the forum what is important to you when you prepare your rank list?? - teaching?? - working environment?? - location??? -benefits?? - fellowships Each one has a priority and a different point of view how to see things. I have already had an experience of a residency in my homecountry in a very competitive program , the teaching was amazing , but there was no life besides residency . I think now I would be happy with something "less " stressfull , with less prestige . So I thought this topic would be interesting in this forum...

How well you would fit in (how comfortable u felt when there)...cut throat competition, frequent calls and lots of research requirements might teach you a lot, but are not always healthy. It's easy to notice how happy some residents are as compared to others. I also look at who the PD and Chair holders are, big names who are gonna hang in a place for the next few years make big differences when it comes to ur LOR's for fellowships.

nisha x 2... depends on what you want. eg if you want great credentials and a life in academic research then teaching and research might be your goals... if you have tensional headaches then a peaceful environment would top your list... if you have family then benefits and location would be... what do you want???

How happy are you going to be in this program for the next three years of life???? How are you going to fit in. NEVER put a program on the list that you hate.
