A 56 year old female begins treatment for severe joint pain and swelling. Several weeks later she presents with cough and hemoptysis. Sputum stain reveals acid fast bacilli, the medication used to alleviate this patients joints symptoms inhibits which of the following processes? A Purine synthesis B Pyrimidine synthesis C Phospholipid degradation D Prostaglandin synthesis E TNF alpha as an add on, can you name the drug, or multiple drugs that have this mechanism of action? It is E...Etanercept can re-activate the latent TB.

Side effect--For sure Infections...Other effects might be due to drug allergy

both of you guys are right, etanercept, infliximab , adalimumab all block tnf alpha which lead to decrease macrophage function and reactivation of tb. They decrease joint erosion, improve synovitis and slow disease progression and thus are often used in the treatment of Rheumatoid athritis.
