you would have to go through match and do residency in the field that you applied. My sister and brother in law are both MBBS's .You do step 1, step2 both parts and then apply for residency. You degree doesnt really change. As a foriegn medical grad it is important that you ace you step 1 and 2 to get a good residency. Good luck !

u mean after i clear step 1 n 2 i apply for residency which i think is for four years in my field of interest...n my scores will decide the field i get..i might have to sit for step 3 before i start my residency..what is the difficult part here..step 3 scores or the no of seats available..n yes,do i need to apply directly to a hospital/university/college..here v apply to universities which regulate colleges..thanks for helping..

they have a program called match which all the program directors look at. to apply to match you only need step 1, step 2 ck, and cs. You apply for the residency that you want, for example internal medicine. now, the higher the score, the better your chance as a foriegn medical grad to get a good residency. Number seat completely depends on the college and there is no allocation, 5 for imgs etc. Everyone compete against eachother. Second some hospitals offer prematch, where you apply to them directly and they will accept you prior to match. I believe in that case you give up your chance of going through match and getting a dream residency (harvard, john hopkin, etc). You do not have to sit for step 3 before your residency, if you have aced this test before match, you would have a dinstict advantage.
