Hi,

I am a medical student from NYC and I have recently joined this group. I am hoping that someone could please give me some advice. I have completed my first two years of medical school, but I cannot begin my third year of medical school until I pass the USMLE Step 1. Unfortunately, I failed the Step 1 exam for the first time in June 2003, and then took the exam again in January 2004 and have just recently received my score, indicating that I have failed for the second time. I have only one more chance to pass this exam in order to begin my 3rd year of medical school in July. If I don't pass, I am kicked out of medical school and all of my six years of endless studying will have been wasted. I am extremely distraught, depressed, sick to my stomach, and I have no idea what to do anymore. I study constantly, but I still have difficulty answering the questions on the exam.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone would offer me some advice. I would be grateful if someone would please recommended a private Step 1 tutor in the NYC area or any student who has done well on the Step 1 exam who could help me out, because I obviously cannot do this on my own any longer.

Thank you for your time,
Nicole

Im sorry to hear that. I havent taken my first step yet, but I can just tell you to keep trying. There are other options too. Lets hope you do pass this time, but if you dont and you really want to be a doctor over everything in this world there are universities overseas that can give you the opportunity to finish medical school and then after that you take youre usmle again with more knowledge. So dont close yourself in a little negative circle, open your mind to possibilities and Im sure that you will get where you want. Its just simply good to say that you tried than to say oh if I had try. Keep working on it and nobody will stop you. Get kaplan notes, goljan for pathology and stick to that. If you feel so tired get a partner in your area and study together so you can keep up the motivation. Post a message to see if you find a partner in your area, I just found a partner and were doing great. I encourage you to do the same thing.

Take care and beleive in yourself.
