Hi Folks,

If a hospital /university is willing to do an H1B visa..is it a prerequisite to have Step 3 done? What if it is a transfer of a prexisting H1B given by the hospital/university..do you still need Step 3?

  #2

YES!!!! Step three results are mandatory to apply for the visa.

ok..my next question is..does one need the step 3 results by Match day..if one already has an H1B visa and is transferring

Is your H a clinical H visa or a research H visa? If you are transferring to a clinical H you need step three results in your hand to apply for the visa. If you need them for match day is going to be program specific.

Check if your current H is from a cap or non-cap facility (the organization that got you the visa will know). Transferring can only be from cap to cap or non-cap to non-cap. (It doesn't matter if you don't understand the terms - the organization will know that it means)

Hi bbb,

thanks for the reply. My H1B is a research visa..and i am looking at a non-cap to non-cap transfer..same university..different hospitals.
So there is a chance that i could get away with not needing my step 3 results before match day!! thats a flicker of hope!!

NO!!!! There is no chance of getting a clinical H1b visa without it - you will still have to have your results.
