I think in reality Step 2 should be more important, since it is more clinically based, hence more important to actually being a doctor. However, in terms of interviews, I feel that your step 1 score is still more important. This is most likely because not everyone has taken step 2 yet, so step 1 scores are used as a benchmark. It is well known that programs will use a cut-off step 1 score for interview screening, regardless of what your step 2 score is. Even from personal experience I can say that step 1 is still more important. I did well on step 1, but then even did 22 points better on step 2. Even still, I found that I was not offered many interviews which I thought I deserved. My only conclusions are that they were only really looking at step 1, and that I am not coming from a prestigious med school.

So in summary; I'd say that step 1 is definitely the most important for interviews, and that a better step 2 will just help so long as your step 1 was good enough to be looked at.

Do you mean for a community or univ hospital?I mean from an academic point of view the univ hospital may care more about your S1 or is it the same for both???
