An African-American mother brings her 6-year-old son to you, because she thinks her son has some skin disease. On examination, you find multiple vesiculopustular lesions on his face and neck. Some of the lesions are crusted and have golden yellow appearance. Also the crust is thick and adherent to the underlying skin. Rest of the physical examination is within normal limits. What is the most appropriate treatment for his skin condition? A. Topical erythromycin. B. Topical mupirocin. C. Oral penicillin. D. Topical dicloxacillin. E. Topical cephalexin.

???? Could use topical cephalexin, topical mupirocin, or topical dicloxacillin... However I would go with topical Dicloxacillin only because the question states the lesions have a golden yellow appearance which leads me towards S. aureus over Strep... dicloxacillin is a little more specific for Staph... D - topical dicloxacillin

i WILL GO WITH b.impetigo=staph topical mupirocin is given for impetigo(FA says that)caused by staph only.while if we want to cover both strept and staph, systemic antibiotics have to be given.I will go with topical mupirocin.although cephalexin, oxacillin are equally useful for staph but the word TOPICAL holds me back.
