I did Physiol from Kaplan - it does take time to get used to studying full time .. just be persistent. I didnt feeel the need to refer to any other book. I would suggest putting off the Q Bank till the first read. If you think you are upto tackling Qs after your first read, do the Q book. It'll give you an idea of what you can improve on. good luck,
Jay

HI I AM CURRENTLY IN 1ST YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL.....AND MY PHYSIO TEACHER SUCKS!!! I AM BASICALLY STUDYING AND LEARNING EVERYTHING ON MY OWN....I HAVE BEEN READING GUYTON....BUT I WAS GOING TO CHANGE MY APPROACH AND READ GUYTON AS WELL AS REVIEW FROM KAPLAN BEFORE TEST....AND MAYBE TRY PRACTICE QUESTIONS....WAT DO U THINK OF THIS IDEA? WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND??

A lot of the Step1 Qs are patho-physiol ie you need a good understanding in both physiol and patho. Plus, most Qs in Step1 have a clinical twist. My 2 cents is that it is almost better to wait until you have atleast one year of clinical experience before taking Step1. In the meanwhile, there is no harm in reading through Kaplan physiol notes to be familiar with the content and if you are upto it, go ahead and try the Qs too! good luck,
Jay

Hello doc.jay,

Thank you for your kind replies on this post. Could you please tell me how many hours you studied everyday during your prep? My exam is scheduled at end of this June. I am working full-time now, still have pharma, anat, embryo&histo, behavior left unread. Haven't started doing any questions yet. I was thinking maybe i need to postpone this exam...

Thanks a lot and best wishes for your future steps!

Abdo~ thanks! yes, i thought that the kaplan Qs were a lot similar to the exam content. In the actual exams, Qs are a little more abbreviated and abrupt, but in my opinion, the Kaplna q bank is a good enough prep method. The practice CD is the best way to guage the real exam qs. good luck !

thronflier~ thanks. my prep was a "full time", basically 8-10hr/day esp for the last few weeks. Use your kaplan scores to determine how well you are ready for the exam. It takes ~1month of full time effort to do the kapln q bank AND review the mistakes from notes etc.
good luck,

Jay
