Ok guys, it so happens that one of the programs I have interviewed at now feels that they ain't had enuf of me... :-) However, I am not sure what they or what I am gonna do in this second visit...I mean, I knew the 1st time that I was supposed to be interviewed...but I am unsure what the protocol is for the 2nd visit... I am sure this thingy varies from program to program, but is there anything specific that should/should not be done on a 2nd visit?? I mean, I am sure some of you guys must have been to places for a 2nd visit..or might be planning to do so shortly...do you have any specific "program" for the day? would be great to hear some experience.... Mostly...I am worried about blowing this opportunity....this is from one of my coveted programs...and sounds pretty much like a "make it or break it" opportunity... heck... a blind date doesnt have such high performance pressures!!!

Each program is going to be different on a 2nd visit. Some might be a re-interview, some might be a chance for you to spend the day with an assigned intern so you can see what the program is really like without their "interview clothes" on. When my applicants come in for a second look, I take their coat, take them to a team in the hospital, tell one of the interns to take care of the applicant and don't scare them and I don't see the applicant again until they come for their coat.

I understand that the 2nd view setting is better than the IV day, doctors and residents are not on IV mode so they can be more relaxed and focus better on the real you, not as the applicant # 130... As bbb said they can interview again or can make you spend the day with the residents in conferences and rounds... basically to see how is your performance is and how you relate with the other residents in a typical working day... just go and work as you were one of them

I think suit is a better option... and if you'll carry a brief case you can have the labcoat in there if it is required

If you are doing a second look, when you arrange the day, ask if it's a re-interview and what would be the dress code. Nothing to stress about - just ask.....

Dear BBB - this may be a silly question, but can applicants request a 2nd visit to boost their chances (e.g. hoping that they will get to sit down with PD once again and emphasize their strengths)?

Hi! I got this email from one of the PD.... We look forward to seeing you at the 2nd Look. If you wish to discuss any aspect of the residency in the meantime, please feel free to e-mail me or call me XXX-XXX-XXXX. I also received a postcard from the program stating the same thing. They also sent me a Christmas card. How should I go about it? I am still deciding if this will be my #1 or #2. They have not offered me a prematch... I think it's bec they are a university program.

A second look isn't a second interview. My PD might see an applicant at a conference or on rounds, but it's not a second interview, unless it's specified by a program. Good luck.
