Talked with one friend who is doing pathology resident today. He told me I am still pretty young among IMG even though I graduated in 1997. He graduated in 1986 and is now a second year resident. This boosts my energy to really study hard to get a good one on step 2 this summer and try my luck on 2008 match. Work hard everyone to boost our scores and chances!

Finished pretest IM, almost done with Surg. try to finish the pretest series by next Tuesday to recollect all the basic stuff forgotten since step1.
When brain stuffed will read cases in CS to have a break. I scheduled CS one month after CK, don't know if this enough time. I just need to work harder...

  #29

go springbird, you're doing great so far!
when did u schedule CS? I plan to take CK and CS 1 month apart also, but dunno if the plan will work cuz my studying is going slow these daysshaking head hope to be more committed from now on...

pediatrics is done too - Kaplan notes and some pretest Q.

Now I have to do one more reading of IM along with Crush and then I'll be ready - hopefully - to start uw!

happy studying everybody smiling face

Hi klimt, I booked my CK in July and CS in August just one month apart. My friend who passed CS told me he practiced for two months with partners he found on the internet who lives close by. The problem is it is not easy to find partner to practice. I will see if my plan works. Since we can rechedule the date two weeks before.
you are not going to use kaplan Q bank? I have both Q bank and UW, what you think which one i should first use? Also the 10 pretest PDF books I have do not include pediatrics, I will practice with the other resources.
Anyway, good luck with your UW.

hi springbird,

I have an older version of Qbank and I'm going to use it along with UW. No exact plan ready yet, but I plan to finish both in March - April.
I'm aiming for CK in June and CS in July, and I really hope it will work!

so good luck, looks like we both have a lot to do!

I'll follow robin's example and post my Qbook scores (done right after 1st kaplan reading):

IM blocks: 1. 72% 2. 64% 3. 62% 4. 74% 5. 70% 6. 74% 7. 78% 8. 62%
except for blocks 3,8 I did reasonably good.

OB/GYN block 1. 76% 2. 84% ....doing great!

Psychiatry block 1. 72% 2. 72%.......reasonably good

Surgery block 1. 56% 2. 60% madmadmad

Pediatrics block 1.56% 2. 50% 3. 56% madmadmad

So I guess Surgery and Pediatrics are my weakest subjects, need to work harder on them...

I'm just wondering how many uw q should I set as a daily goal? I was thinking 100...I guess we'll wait and see how it goes...

back to study now!

You are doing great klimt nod good luck with your tomorrow's UW!

  #41

yesterday was exhausting...did my first 2 uw blocks, 30q and 46q, scored 50% and 54%......not very good considering I did some very stupid mistakes. I did blocks timed and randomized and because of bad time management I misread 2-3 q/block...but I guess the same happens even in the real exam, so.....

love the explanations, they seem sooo logic. but they always send me back to my books and this is very time-consuming...

let's see what today brings. plan to do 2 blocks also (30-46q) so back to work!

  #42

uw going slower than expected.....explanations take soooo long to review and make notes, I have time for 50-70 q top per day. I try to avoid interuptions and distractors and focus on study. scores are about the average they give for each test, like low 50s so far, really hope they'll improve!

  #44

hi klimt please tell me whats pretest?

  #45

pretests are some practice-question books with 500 tests on each exam subject. they are not the best, but ok to practice while reading kaplan.

this morning I read some posts of people who did/didn't match and I realized how important my preparation is. actually the step2 score is one of the few Match-related things I can have control over, so hopefully this will make me more committed in my study!

done 46q random so far for today. go to read explanations now

i need a favor

is it 10th edtion 2003, 190 pages, ISBN 007140287X ?

a new 11th edition has come out which is 356 pages with ISBN 0071455531

which one is better?

looking forward for ur reply

GOOD LUCK WITH STUDIES

  #48

hi doc08, the version I use is 2003 version, it is pdf file coming with the kaplan vido lecture I bought online. don't know about the new version, should be better than old one. Among all pretest series, I don't have pediatrics but tried medicine, surgery, obgyn, neurology. I suggest you only do medicine and neruology, surgery maybe, but not obgyn, not good.

  #49

Hi Kilmit
It seems you are in advance stages of your prep.
I am just starting but need to take exam by July 15th.
I am going to subscribe for umsle world qbank.
Do you think it is best to do it cuncurrently with your prep or only after first revision
thanks and good luck with prep

hi doc08, I used 10th edition for Pretests, done only IM completely, and only a few for the rest of subjects. anyways don't spend too much time on these, as kaplan qbank and usmleworld are much better

and hi sachida. I don' t know the best way. I 'surfed' thru all subjects before UW but as your time is limited, you could start rightaway and use it as a learning tool. many people did that with very good results. even if I read everything before it seems not very helpful as my scores are quite low for now. and besides q are a much more effective way of studying, I absorb much more info this way than with plain reading (which is soo boring...)

sorry for the late response, I've been out of town...studying was on hold alsosad
