I have a pre-match offer from a community program which happens to be no 3 on my list. But there are no fellowship options..its an IM program. The first 2 in my list have tremendous fellowship options but one doesnt offer any pre-match and the other to only one or two seats.
I am in a fix> what to do
My scores are good above mid 90s but I have passed out 5 yrs.

do you need fellowship ar would you be happy with hospitalist/primary care jobs?

do you have more than 3 ivs?

I would like to do a fellowship but whether at the cost of wasting one more year I am not sure.
I have total 6 interviews one I have not attended yet and Interfaith which I am not planning to rank.
Thing is except these 2 all are community hospitals with almost no fellowships and of these the one which is offering pre-match has the best location plus H1b

If I were U I will take it as bird in hand is better than 2 in bush. If U work hard during residency and have good ref then U will get fellowship 2 no matter even if Ur residency prog does not have one u will get at another hospital. So just grab residencyy first. But that is my way of thinking U and others may differ. Gl.

You can fellowship in another program later on.

If it is on the 3rd position on my ROL, I will absolutely take it.

I've seen/heard many are very eager with fellowship at the beginning but may change their mind later. So I think fellowship is another story.

Just my humble opinion.

you should ultimately make the decission, but I tend to agree that 3 out of 6 is not bad at all.

one last thing to make a more informed decission is to try to contact your sirst to options asking what are your chances with them.

good luck, ngt.

Thank you for the advice
I will try contacting the first 2
But whom should I contact?-The Program coordinator, the director or chief resident?

You can't imagine how calm things can get once you sign the contract and forget about this bloody race... 3rd option + good location + H1B = OOOOHHH YEAAHHH

Think about it and best of lucks!!!! gringringrin

I compeletly agree, take it it's H1 visa and your third choice!
it's like gambeling!!!
but the best thing is to call your 2 first choice ,call PC and write a email to PD and explian your situation ,and how much you are intersted in thier program and see what will be happen,if they don't offer you ,just accept your prematch offer
Best of luck and wish all of us where ever we will and what ever will do,just be HAPPY.

if u had 16 interviews i would have maybe considered a gamble.
with 6 iviews - number 3 offering u a prematch is like a dream man. grab it with hands and dont let go. its h1 on top of it.
harry is right - get into the system.

Thank you for all of your advice and luck
I have decided to accept if I dont hear anything from the other 2
Only thing is I am definitely not as happy as I would have been-once u see what u could have u are not satisfied with the second best-
But I am definitely not complaining
I will try to make the best out of it
Thanks again
