Hi all
I have been a silent observer of this forum....am preparing for my step 3 ,giving it very soon...

can someone tell me the medical conditions where alternate medicines r used and their side effects.......

List of Alternative medicine;

St. John's wort - use for dpression;Side effects-Avoid with SSRI,cyclosporin,Indinavir,Warfarrin,Digoxin,Simvastatin,Oral contraceptiv;

Saw Palmetto-use for Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy-Improves urinary symptoms,does not decrease Prostate size or PSA level

Ginkgo-use for Dementia-Avoid with NSAIDs, Warfarin,Heparin increased risk of bleeding
Licorice-used in chewing gum and chewing tobacco-pt will get HTN,hypokalemia,metabolic alkalosis
Glucosamine-use for osteoarthritis--no known side effect
Ginseng-use for fatigue-side effect?
DHNA-antiaging agent,sexual enhancer,depression--side effect?
Ephedra-use for weigh loss, stimulant
Kava--hepatotoxic,enhance disorientation
