Oxford handbook, Fred Ferri for the algorithms, Marino for ICU posting, Marriott or Schamroth for EKG,

The best resource is to get a pda and get uptodate on it. But chances are your residency union(CIR) will pay for the pda... they might even pay for uptodate (but that's doubtful),... So have one picked out and buy it on July 1st. As an intern, that's all you really need (with epcorates which is free). You might want to get pocket guides (maxwell and a pharmacopia) handy before your first day, but I used uptodate if I want to look anything up. (uptodate.com) I was "conned" into getting this little blue book for $30 by my chiefs. To their credit, the second years do use it a lot, but as an intern.. It's laying in a corner collecting dust.

Maybe Current Diagnosis and Treatment 2007. They have a new version out every year.

I just asked one of the interns. He gave me a look and shook his head. He said "Who the f%&^ has time to read a book?" I'm just glad that he is comfortable enough with me to use language that I admire. I'll ask another intern to see if I get a better answer.

No matter what you do, make sure you have a packet pharmacopia come July 1st, or you will be completely lost.

Not the PDR. I've seen residents and interns use tarascon pharmacopoeia. The PDR are useless, you can even get one for free from drug rep.
