A 6-year-old healthy boy is brought to the office by his parents after they heard that chicken pox is infectious and can occur in unimmunized contacts. The boy had contact with one of his cousins who had chicken pox when they visited their family friends one week back. The child has two other siblings who are healthy, but have not had any immunization for chicken pox, just like the patient. Which of the following is the most appropriate next step in the management of this patient?

A. Administer varicella vaccine to patient
B. Give intravenous immunoglobulins to patient
C. Administer varicella vaccine and intravenous immunoglobulins to patient
D. Administer acyclovir to patient
E. Tell the parents that the patient might develop a rash within the next two weeks

E. Tell the parents that the patient might develop a rash within the next two weeks

Reason in my view is vaccine dont work post exposure.

IVIG should be given within 96hrs of exposure to be effective.

Acyclovir wouldnt help either.

(D) ACYCLOVIR MAY BE USED AS A POST EXPUSURE PROPHYLAXIS AFTER 1 WEEK.IMMGS AFTER 96H.
