I would say yes..., if it´s not a CV or Lung case, I would do it that way. GL

i wud complete my anterior chest exam first and then move to the back in this way u ask the pt to sit up or lie down once it causes less discomfort to pt and saves time too.

The way I do it: Respiratory Case: SP sitting-lower gown anterior portion-listen to lung apices then move to back and do inspection-palpation-percussion-auscultation. Then do CV exam with SP sitting. CV Case: SP sitting-anterior lung auscultation then back (if necessary). Then CV exam with SP sitting and then lying down at this point with SP lying down u can do abd if necessary. Other than CV or Resp cases: SP sitting anterior lung auscultation and then CV also sitting. This works for me, this way I focus on 1 system at a time instead of jumping from 1 to another and helps not to forget stuff. Do whatever works best for u, try this or Muzammil suggestion and then stick with the metod

EGOMEZ , DO YOU THINK THEY WILL ACCEPT PALPATING AND PERCUSSING ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE CHEST( BACK OR ANTERIOR) ON A RESPIRATORY CASE??

egomez, hold on , isn't the anterior chest examined for respiration while pt is lying and the back while sitting. the cvs on another hand is tested anteriorly while patient sitting and lying,i don't think we should check respiration for anterior chest while pt is sitting.corrct me if i'm wrong.

Ok Lily how this sounds: Respiratory case: Sitting-posterior lung exam then lying-anterior lung exam and cv exam. Then abd if necessary. CV case: Sitting-posterior lung exam, anterior lung exam, cv then lying-cv 2nd part. Or if u don´t want to do anterior lung while sitting do: Sitting-posterior lung exam, cv then lying-anterior lung exam and cv 2nd part. Then Abd if necessary. Post ur method.

if only we can do anterior chest respiratory check while pt is sitting we won't have a problem , just do complete respiratory back and front while sitting then heart while sitting too and then lying for heart

Agree with you Lily Bates (book) mentions that´s better to do ant lung exam lying but you can do it with patient sitting if he´s having SOB or uncomfortable. So I guess we can go ahead and do it that way and also it would be in the cv case so lung exam would not be as relevant as cv exam. When is your test Lily?
