A term eonate born after difficult delivery, has APGAR 3.Arterial blood drawn after 3min. & showed PO2 is 10 & PCo2 is 27 mmHg pH is 7.09 What's the best interpretation? a)Markedly dec. PCo2 suggesting hyperventilation b)Markedly dec pH >>> acidosis c)Markedly dec. PO2>>>resp failure d)Markedly inc. pH suggesting alkalosis e)Within normal limits

Sorry have'nt come across that post. Anyway here's the detailed explanation for it Ans is E !! This is a trick Q, We have 2 kno the Biochem of neonates; esp in 1st few min.s-hrs of life, which is a lot different from adults -Normal range of pH @ birth 7.11-7.36 -Normal PO2 strikingly low as 8-24 mmHg -Normal PCo is 27-40 mmHg pH vary broadly in 1st few hours from 7.09 to 7.50, who later do well.
