thanks Moozy, so does one have to go to home country to get it, or can it be done at the embassy in London itself? sorry to trouble u with ques..

for statement of need .. you will have to apply in home country.. I have asked my parents to do the paperwork for me over there..it is an unpleasant process because i have to renew my registration first and then contact the department of health.

Visa application after completion of all documents can be made in london embassy or home country.. whatever you prefer

The following is the extract of emaIl I rcvd fro Department of Health in UK. It does not apply to me but wil be helpful for people aplying for J1 and have UK passports or indefinite leave to remain in UK ( not HSMP or PFT visa). As far as the process of statement of need letter from Pakistan is concerned; I will post tha info as soon as I start the processing. So far u need to have ur PMDC registration renewed before writing to Health minstry.

The extract for UK people is as follows:

Before I can process your application, the Department requires the
following documentation:

a) Evidence of your residency in the U.K:-

U.K./ E.C. Residents a copy of the page from the passport showing
Citizenship, name and photograph ? one page.

non U.K./E.C. Residents ? a copy of three pages, showing Citizenship,
name, photograph and the home office stamp showing indefinite leave
to remain in the U.K after your period of training is completed.

b) Evidence of medical status:- Either a copy of the current G.M.C.
Registration Certificate, or a copy of the current E.C.F.M.G.
Certificate.

c) A signed undertaking to return to the U.K. on completion of training.
E.g. "On completion of my training in the U.S. I undertake to return to
the U.K. and enter the practice of medicine in ......[ insert UK
speciality] related to the US speciality of ?? [enter US speciality]

Hi Moozy, once again thanks for all the info about J1 statement of need.

The Department of Health in the UK has aproved my application and I will receive this letter next week. I am UK resident for 2 years now and I have EC passport. The problem is that althought I have a right to indefinite residence in the UK and I can apply for "right for UK residence certrificate" I do not have legal permanent residence status. It takes 5 years of living in the UK to obtain LPR.

It is quite complicated and I am not sure how much ECFMG is strict about LPR. Anyone knows about similar cases from the past?

  #17

my understanding is that ecfmg needs letter of need from country of last legal residence... if UK is giving u that letter, it should be fine.... ecfmg has got nothing to do with ur residency issues in UK as far as u have indefinite leave to remain.

gl
