Dear Baseball, Internal medicine is tough because of the high IMG demand on it. so you are competing with americans and IMGs who many of them has good scores and a considerable home country clinical experience. I may be wrong or biased but I have realized that indians (who are by far the largest group of IMGs) tend to love Internal Medicine. ofcourse I have no statistics to prove that. Surgery on the other hand is very tough for IMGs in general, many places don't accept foreighners even with great CV. Prelim is relatively easy for Imgs but cat is very hard to get. other branches like ob/gyn are less competitive because americans are losing interest in because of the medicolegal problems. I heard that psych is easyas well but not sur NB. I have realized that people tend to participate in threads that has more than 1 reply

i agree with above... AMGs are more interested n prelim spots in IM and bcos of competetion.. it is hard for IMGs to grab a prlim spot.. as for categorical IM.. the competetion may be more because of the following: 1- USA visa leniency in Indai n Pakistan 2- UK visa problems.. so more Indian and paksitanis coming to US now 3- UK job problems so more UK trained Foreign graduates coming to US ( like myself) 4- ppl from last year who did not match have gained some USCE.. so more competetion This is just my opinion... thats how i see it.... it is tough and i meet ppl everyday with scores in 90s and 3 or 3 interviews.. it is geting scary.... but application on time with good and realistic choices of programs can make you go through this process. GL to all and merry Christmas
