Dear all, I have doing general surgical training in India (MS-Gen surgery) followed by MRCS (UK) with experience in cardiothoracic surgery. I wish to pursue the same ie cardiothoracic surgery in US. I'd be grateful for suggestions/ advice regarding- possibility of getting into a residency program ? best way to approach it ? has someone you know recently got into it ? I'll be taking my usmle soon ! Cheers

Intellidoc - your chances are most likely quite good. However, be aware that you must complete a gen surgery residency program in the US in order to sit for boards. My program has accepted several IMGs. Best of luck!

Completion a 5-year accredited residency training in USA or Canada is necessary for entring CT fellowship. You can also and ask program per se to find out more and if there is any other way to enter CT. Good Luck!

I am in a similar position ( except for the mrcs ) . There are Cardiothoracic Surgery programs in many schools . Buta better bet wud be doing a General Surgery residency and top it up with CT ( U neva know things make u chanfge urmind so ur left with an option after general Surgery ) Besides it makes irt easier to walk into a CT program fter a gen Surgery board certification
