I interviewed at a program which doesnt offer pre-match. This program is second in my list but has a strong reputation of accepting people who have seniors/friends in the program. After I wrote to the PD i got back a mail from the PD saying....we look upon your candidacy favourably.. What should I understand-is this a standard mail?

There is no certain way to know that! He answered you, that is a good thing, but if it is a standard letter is impossible to know for sure. You should focus your energies trying to secure that position talking to your inner contacts, keeping in touch with the PD & PC, and making 2nd views. Do not waste time worrying about how sicere is the letter... just fight the spot.

Means, sending regular emails or calls to your contacs... eg. if you just passed the step 3 then send an email to the pd and/or other physicians in the hospital mention your score and how interested you are in the program, if you get a temp in your home as an ICU resident then mention that and that you are interested in the progra.... the idea is that notice that you are working hard and how commited you are to the program... ask your contacts to regularly ask the PD/PC about your application and your chances to get in... These are examples, but you should be aware if the interest is reciprocal, if they don't like you then no matter what do you do they will not change their minds... Make a move, then stop and reassess your situation, then make the next move...and so on. Hope it helps you...

U could do a 2nd view... talk to the residents, if they like you maybe someone could put a word for you... it is very obvious when there are people willing to give you a hand... but you have to look for them...
