Kaplan Qbank USMLE

I want to thank all of those in this forum for all the help. I am an IMG class of 2002. I studied from Kaplan with the cd's, Pharmacology Lippincott, Bioquemistry Lipincott, Ridiculuos for Microbilogy, some Robbins Pathology for the things I did'nt understand, The netter for Anatomy pictures, First Aid, I read the High Yield notes for Golgan but did'nt have time to do all the questions. I did Kaplan and scored between 65%-70%. I did almost all the questions from Web path, but I did'nt have time to do the questions with the gross images. I did'nt do UW or NBME. I did Q book and scored maybe around 68%.
At the start of the day of the exam I was a little nervous witch is totally normal. I did'nt freak out like people say. I did all the blocks with just enough time. Only in one block a had to hurry alittle because time was running out. About the questions? I did'nt get alot of Neuro anatomy and I did'nt have to calculate anything. I was so afraid of calculations because I don't remember the formulas and I almost always get them wrong, so that was good. I swear like 7 questions came out about a medical situation and the anwers where about what will you tell the patient in that situation. I just put the one that I thought was ethically correct. Lots of question about car accidents and patient injuries like Pneumothorax or hemo thorax. I did'nt get lots of Microbilogy. I did get a slide with a picture of a critter I thought it was Giardia Lambia. Alcoholism is big on the test so know everything there is to know about what it does to your liver and all the bioquemistry that has to do with alcoholism. I got a genetic family tree question from genetics. Overall I think I understood most of the questions. Some questions I guessed because I thought it had to be the answer since the rest of the answers can't be right. I just tried the best that I could and I think that is what helped me get through the test without freaking out. I don't know if I passed. Lot's of people are praying for me and I think that is what helps you pass at the end because I dont feel that did good on the test but I know I did'nt do bad. So I'm in the middle just playing the waiting game right now. I'll write more latter if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Thanks again for this forum because it really helps to know what the test is like and when you are there you feel that you already took the test becasue you have heard so much about it already. Bye

Hi,
I took the exam today and was a bit surpised by the 'strange'ness - may be some of them are strange or more likely may be it was me I too read some exam experience but my own was well, not what I expected!(I hope thats not the same with the results) It was almost like 50- 60% of the answers I had to think on the spot right there and me being hypomanic didnt help!
Good luck with your results

Congratulations Arivero! Could you tell me how useful the Goljan High yields and audios for you? Thanks.

Dear Friend,

At first Best wishes & good luck for your exam. Can you please tell me that, in how many questions you saw graphs from Pharmacolgy(means E, NE, Ganglion blocker action on different setting) as well as calculations(pharmacology & physiology)? How was the genetic, molecular biology and Biostatistic portion??

best of luck

I did'nt listen to the goljan audio, I only read his high yield notes. I think that it was important to read it because it helps on the test to know fast information that you need to answer questions.
About the calculations? to answer KOBITA's Question. I only got one question that I needed to do a calculation, and it was one of those hardy weidenburg equation problems. I knew the formula and everything but I did'nt bother trying to calculate it because I would've spent too much time trying to then get it wrong at the end, so I just guessed so I could have more time to answer questions that I knew that I had a good chance of getting right. For biostatistics? I got a question about relative risks and a cohort study. I did'nt have to calculate anything but I did have to know the formula to calculate it. For example the answers will look something like this.
150*350/230*450=NA . so you have to know what numbers to use from a table data that they show you.
I did get pharmacology graphs and I was asked witch drug causes this effect with Bars going up or down. You have to know your pharmacology. Especially epinephine reversal and what drugs block what to answer these questions. Like beta blockers block the effect that epinephine has on the beta 2 receptors so instead of the diastolic pressure going down it will go up in the presence of the beta blocker
I got a nicotinic blocking graph and I think I got it wrong.
For physiology I got a whole bunch of questions with graphs of arrows going up or down. I hope this helps.
