A 55-year-old chronic smoker undergoes cystectomy for bladder carcinoma. A urinary diversion, in form of a ileal conduit, is made. However, three months later the patient comes to the ER with tachypnea and confusion. His laboratory studies show a pH of 7.3. Which of the following acid base disorder is most likely expected in this patient? A. Hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis. B. Hyperchloremic metabolic alkalosis. C. Hypochloremic metabolic acidosis. D. Normochloremic metabolic acidosis. E. No acid base disorder. pls explain your choice.

is this because the diversion causes a diarrhea like ileal fluid lost, then the metabolic acidosis further causes tachypnea for compensation? Just guess, really don't know.

ileal conduit will not change the electrolyte much or not at all. so option shd be D. normomochl metab acidosis, becoz the electrolyte changes sounds solely from kidney sugesstions invited
