hi every one,

how do we tell the pt. that we are looking for breathing pattern.
can somebody put it inwords

Telling a patient that you're looking for "breathing pattern" is not necessary. Just observe the patient. If they are in respiratory distress, they will either exaggerate the breathing for you or talk in brief, short gasps. It will be obvious.

agree with Irish, in general in the cs exam if the patient have any positive sign they will exaggerate it alot that no way u gonna miss it

if you noticed any signs of respiratory distress ask him about it, when it started, is it all the time...etc even if you noticed it during physical exam not history
