HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH at last.
after countless days of stress and exams and interviews I got a prematch at one of my best programs (whom were only 4). at last I can breath.
But I am not going far from here. it is a prelim surgery so I will be here next year. a stronger applicant. I will be around in step 3 forum. and for anyone who want to know my openion about something.
Thank you every one. this forum has been an essential tool. if not the most crucial factor in getting me that job. it helped me through the exams, the paper work, the application and finally the interviews. I will not forget this for you.
I heartly thank everyone who helped me, and will pay back my dept by helping all the newbies in this forum

even i have an offer for surg prelim , bit confussed to take it or not , will we be able to apply for IM categorical after this and what are the visa issues?plz advice .............and what did u tell in ur interview , like u have intrest in surgery for PGY 2 or something else u mentioned ??waiting for ur reply!!!

Dear Baseball.
I am Sorry I can't give you a clear answer. as for taking prelim then applying for other speciality it is possible for citizens (like me) and green card holders. but I red somewhere in the forum that people on visa may not be able to repeat a clinical year. which mean that you will only be able to apply for pgy2 surgery which is very hard to get. but I am not sure of that check ecfmg website on the left menu in the main page. you will find all the info on J1.
AS for me my plan is to take a prelim this year then next year apply for pgy1 categorical surgery or if possible may be I will go for ortho or uro but not sure.
I always thought that a transitional internship will be a great choice for people who want IM. the type of experience you get as a prelim surgery has very low content of medicine stuff. while the transitional year is loaded with IM (usu 6 month ).
Check your chances first. and only take the prelim if you have nothing else to do

I have very less chance for this match .....will my prelim surg give me a 1 yr USCE and good chance over next match for other specialities ?i do understand my chance for surg PGY2 is impossible.if i have to apply for next match i will have to apply for PGY1 and not PGY2 .
do i have to wait for 1 year by doing observership/externship /research and with a tough competition next year should i apply or shall i take this risk of increasing my chance for next match to get in IM PGY 1 by getting in Surg Prelim??
I m sorry to say this but i cant hide the truth , i come from a middle class family and i can earn something for my next match as well ,money is also a issue now ,
