When a PD says they are going to "rank you high" is that real or something they just say to give you hope??? Any ideas?????

I guess PDs are thinking of the same question: when an applicant says he/she will rank the program very high, what is his/her real meaning? Does he/she say the same thing to every program?
Very hard to say.

The rules of the match won't let us say that we will rank you number 1 or 2 or 20. All we can say is that we are going to put you on the list.
Trust in the match - the match is good.

No one can tell if the PD was telling the truth or just being nice... as evemimi said, it could be the same deal when you are in a program that you don't like and you tell the PD that you love the program just to be polite. My advice would be, if you really like the program and you feel that you have chances over there, don't rely on the PD's words only, make a second view, keep contact with the program, and show your interest and commitment to the program... Unfortunately that is as much as we applicants can do at this point.

Hi BBB, can I ask you a quick question.
You mentioned "All we can say is that we are going to put you on the list.". If a program have 20 postions, how many applicant's names will be put on the list?

Depends on the program, how many people they interview, how many people they liked......
