A 43-year-old white female, who has no medical problems, presented to your office with several week history of red painful nodules over the extensor surfaces of the lower legs. Patient denies any recent history of illness, cough or fever. Her bowel and bladder function is good. She never traveled outside the states. She is not on any medications. Her family history is significant for ovarian carcinoma. Her last menstrual period was 2 weeks ago. She never had these problems before. On examination she has multiple exquisitely tender pink to reddish nodules noted below the knee. What is the next most appropriate step in management for this patient?


A. Ultrasound of the abdomen
B. Small bowel follow-through

C. Chest X-ray
D. PPD skin test

E. CBC

this is Erythema Nodosum, maybe due to Sarcoidosis, Tuberculosis, ulcerative colitis.

Chest X ray is first choice to check in this patient.
