If there were hard and plastic rules for everything then there would be no words in the dictionary like subjective ,unpredictable, crazy and red underwear. We cant know for sure what does it mean but we can know for sure what it doesnt mean...So the exercise would be to know wht it doesnt mean and then eliminate things ... what it doesnt mean is -marry my daughter.,..marry me ..wear my clothes....wear my daugters clothes.take my property ..take my car and paint my red underwear little less unlikely meainging is -paint yor red uw, get married,do i look crazy ,lets start a new life..GWB is not a genius ,I like my dog ,and my daughter loves you ,I am doubly incontinent..are you as well. these choices are out ..now you have less to eliminate... bro if the program says they hope to be together with yu in future...what does it mean...either false or true ...so if true then congrats....If false then dont worry coz its your second choice ..rank it anyway ...consider it true in my opinion.

thank you laptop for your input...your are always so funny!! I am soooo happy because this is an excellent program . My first choice is in a university program , but to tell you the truth I do not know if it will come . I was feeling so confused , I got a prematch and I did not not know if I should accept it and today I got this letter. I prayed so much to God for an answer , I think the answer is to go to the match .

Your gut feeling could give you so much vic2006 ..If its the match that anticipate the triumph in then go for it without fear...THose who dare dont care ......You realize your true worth its all important...Trust your faith and go for it...envisage yourself in that program garden wearing knights robe and sitting by the bench drinking heavenly liquor and smoking hasheesh ...by the end of the dream there will be no liqor and haseesh but you will be in that garden wearing hte bare minimum .... ...then you can plant haseesh and ferment the liqor...aim at the top leaf of the tree and you wont miss the stub even if you miss the shot...

Dear Vic2006, I borrow our friend "laptop" words "If there were hard and plastic rules for everything then there would be no words in the dictionary like subjective ,unpredictable, crazy and red underwear." YET. In my openion is what this email mean either a) that this guy like you but not enough to offer a prematch. in other word he has some guys that he hopes will fill the position but want to keep you close so you will be availble in the match as a backup b) your are the top of the list. may be so much that he thinks you are too good for him (esp if it is a small weak program). so he want to offer a prematch he would refuse. c) his hospital policy prohibts prematchs. d) most likely . he sent every one this letter. I am not giving you an advice and I don't know if you have a good list of interviews that you are sure you will match some where. BUT I will tell you what I would consider to do in your situation-and it is a risky move . I would email that program director directly and tell him that you are being offered a prematch and tell him that you prefer to go to his program. but you just want to know what exactly there intention with you. I would do that if these three were your only interviews. because you say a) your first choice is unlikely. b) if you refused the prematch that program will likely contact their second choice and will not consider you for the rest of the position c) if you lost the above 2 you will be left with this programs in whihc you are most likely a backup for someone else. so you may end up unmatched. IF you have other acceptable alternatives then go for the match. otherwise a bird in your hand is better than a hundred on a tree

The content of the letter was " We were very impressed by your application and enjoyed meeting you personally. I enjoyed hearing about your previous training in......and your plans for the future. We hope you will strongly consider our program as you formulate your rank order list and we genuinely hope to work with you in the future. " My prematch was not in a bad place , but not also in my dream place . I have 6 more interviews to go . My dilema is that my prematch is in a decent poor hospital , with full of rare patologies , has a fellowship in my area , but the benefits are terrible , I have to support my family , I will have to move and everything has to be put on a scale. And this hospital that wrote me the letter is an excellent program , has fellowships , has an excellent afilliation and the benefits are much better . My first choice( the university program ) would be the best one because I would not need to relocate , but I saw the pictures from the classes and there was no FMG , so ... I felt ridiculous on the interview , but anyway ..... What I think about this whole thing is that we understimate ourselves a little bit sometimes . On interviews we get compliments , after interviews we get letters and we still ask ourselves if we deserve it or if they are just saying for saying , just to be nice and diplomatic . So who is going to fill all these positions ?? We have to believe in ourselves !!

vic2006, this is the way humour goes. it doesn't attach to everybody. You could be the best commedian in the world, woody allen or mister Bean you will always find someone who finds you not funny at all and maybe boring. I personally dont find laptops posts particularly funny and I'm not sure this is his intention. But I do believe that literary speaking he has a great style and excellent skills.

I am very quiet in this forum, but I concern and like this forum. I agree with Wamba greatly. Humour brings funny feeling to somebody, but classical style can be understood by every one. We need humor, because it is time of stress; however, I feel confused and breathe difficultly by TOO much humor. Laptop used to have lovely style. I like his posts before and at the beginning of match season. Happy holidays!

dear Vic. Since you have 6 other interviews. you can safely go for the match. I hate to disappoint you but all the 3 programs I have been to said the same to me. in fact in one of them the PD said that to all the applicant in the lunch room. so I won't count on this to say you got the position. AS for rural places. I always knew that they are much cheaper ( as a cost of living) and family friendly. but I am sure you know that. ofcourse a university program is better on the long run as far as career goes

Hello Mohelgamal, I think you are correct. This is all a game .The best thing I can do is go for the rest of my interviews , take a second look at this place , talk to the people there and take my decision . Maybe on my interviews circuit I may fall in love with more hospitals and really decide that the match will be the best for me. But thank you for your opinion and thanks for puting my feet on the ground again.

hi, is that from st luke roosevelt? i received a similar letter FROM THEM. HONESTLY. THE WAY THE RULES ARE OF THE MATCH, THEY NEVER LOSE ANYTHING BY HAVING ALL APPLICANTS RANKING THEM FIRST IN THEIR LIST. SO I TRY NOT TO PUT SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON THIS TYPE OF PREDESIGNED LETTER THAT INCORPORATES YOUR NAME, BUT THEY ARE BASICALLY THE SAME. VERY DIFFERENT IS WHEN YOU RECEIVE AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO A THANK YOU EMAIL WITH PERSONALIZED AND POSITIVE COMMENTS FROM THE INTERVIEWER, BECAUSE i FEEL IT REFLECTS BETTER THAT THE INTERVIEWER LIKED YOU AND WILL BE YOUR ADVOCATE AT RESIDENCY COMITEE. THAT BEING SAID, THE RANKING SHOULD REFLECT OUR PREFERENCES OF PROGRAMS AND SHOULD NOT BE INFLUENCED BY PERFORMANCE DURING INTERVIEW. IT IS A LOT ABOUT GUT FEELING AND SEE YOU FIT IN A PROGRAM THAT WILL OFFER GOOD TRAINING AND HELP DEVELOP YOUR CAREER. WELL, GOOD LUCK TO ALL. LASTLY, I ALSO WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT I STRONGLY AGREE WITH BBB THAT MATCH IS GOOD. DEFINITIVELY STRESSFULL BUT GOOD FOR THE APPLICANTS AS IT AVOIDS THE PRESSURE OF PREMATCHES AND SECOND THOUGHTS. NGT

Applicants have a much greater weight in the match than the program. Also, if I had a nickel for every applicant who said that they were going to rank our program #1 - and then didn't match with us - I would be a rich BBB, doing what BBB does in a tropical environment. Like Costa Maya or Cozumel.

Match is good for strong applicants, but can be too risky for applicants with 3-4 interviews at which they are definitely not the best. As for me this year I will sign the first prematch that knock my door (it is a prelim any way). next year may be I will go through the match

I think it depends in part on the way your ivs go. you have to sense your possibility, to feel it realistically. If you are the top actor of the movie during your interviews, the al pacino of the show then you can feel more confident to go to the match even if you have 3-4 ivs. You'll get your oscar somewhere. But if your performance is the leslie nielsen's one (no offense to his fans), then just pray that your crazy humour will attach to one PD.

Match is good, but sometimes the stakes are too high. Also, some programs just say nothing at all to the interviewees, depend on the hospital.

I think these interviews are so subjective . They are "almost" the same , why did you chose Im ? Why did you come to America? etc etc.... smiles smiles You fit to the program , i am impressed by your CV , simles smiles , and good luck So it is very difficult to know if they really liked you , I am saying in programs where prematches are not offered , . It is easy to know if they they did not like you. You never know it if the " special " treatment you might be getting is extended to more than 400 candidates . The conclusion , it is a gamble !!!!

applicants lie to every1 saying ur number 1 pds lie to every1 saying ur one of the best i have seen pcs lie in those nice reject letters that u are one of our stronger candidates however we have filled up the spot and we wish u the best (dont u think if they were wishing u the best u wud have got a call ) every1 lies.. and this is the truth. so indulge urself in this holy festival we call the match. dont trust the pd / pc / interviewer attending / chief resident until they offer u a prematch. keep ur options open and ur backups ready. not bein paranoid. bein practical. programs dont trust u too. programs interview 10 ppl for 1 spot for the same purpose. for all those x file fans - trust no one just tryin to share the festive spirit

and fyi i disregard all input like letters/emails etc from every1. if u have a prematch from a good program from ur top choices - then take it. dont reject just bcoz u feel the program better than that smiled more to u on the iview day and bcoz the pd gave u their home phone number.
