Hi folks,

I only have one IV for my specialty (a competitive University Neuro program--it seemed that I was the only IMG) and 7 prelim IV. I am afraid that I would not be matched into specialty given only one IV. I have been thinking to switch my prelim to Categorical but am worried if I lose them all...almost all prelim IM programs asked me how certain I decided to go into the specialty field? What would you do if you were in my shoes? Please advice me! Thanks a lot

try aggressively to get neurology. Neurology is pretty much as competitive as internal medicine/prelim so I don't see why you would be able to get medicine but not neurology. Since you have seven prelim iv, try to get neuro iv from one of those places... Since i don't know your scores or your overall competitiveness I can't really say what your chances are but, 7 prelim interviews is pretty good for this early in the season. I would call neurology programs obssessively for interviews. Is this they year they switched from san francisco to the regular match?? Maybe most of them are just confused with the new system. Regardless, if you want Neuro go for it... If you have only one neuro interview in Feb, then I would get scared...

Hi Adeelmd,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I only have one IV for Neurology and I don't think that I will have more interviews for Neurology as I did not apply for lots of programs (I mistakenly thought Neuro is easy to get in).

Do you think I should just go for the prelim and apply again next year or switch from the prelim to the Categorical. Anyone has ever done similar like this?

thanks a bunch
