they changed it from 182 to 185. it seems that it is only a 3 points difference, but how many people can pass or fail just by 3 points?!

  #4

That's the scary part. I know so many people that fell in that range! Is there a way of correlating 3 points to the number of questions? Hoefully none of us will have to worry about that because we'll be way over 185!

  #5

Taking a guess Id say 3 points is about 12 to 15 qs.

do not look to that

ur traget as an img is to ace it or better not to do it..so it should not be bothering us

what really matters would we be able to go over the 95 2 digit score??

really? u have to answer extra 12 to 15 questions right just so you can get 3 more points higher? my god. that is shocking. I thought that u just need to get one or two extra questions right. then it seems that 3 points difference really force people to study harder. my god.

At its December 2006 meeting, the Step 1 Committee conducted such a review, considering information from multiple sources including:
1) recommendations from physicians and scientists who participated in content-based standard-setting activities in the fall of 2006;
2) results of surveys of various groups concerning the appropriateness of current pass/fail standards for Step examinations;
3) trends in examinee performance; and
4) score precision and its effect on the pass/fail decision. As a result of this review, the Step 1 Committee decided to raise the three-digit score recommended to pass Step 1 from 182 to 185. The new minimum passing score will be applied to Step 1 examinations for which the first day of testing is on or after January 1, 2007.

This is information from usmle website. What are its implications?

Thats it im not going to do it anymore. 3 points? its like they want us all to fail.
Im giving up.

I am more optimist. Not passing is better than passing with a bad score. It is good that they raised the bar. If we are not VERY well prepared, we are going to have the chance to try it again. We lose the mobey, not the chance.smiling face

Hi, does someone know, how many of 350 questions one should answer correctly, to pass the Step 1 ( get 185)? Thanks so much.
any estimation is a great help.

Id say subtract 50qs that are experimental=300. So 65% of 300 is 195. So Id say the answer is close to 195. [which is maybe slightly less then 2 out of 3] But Id say 2 out of 3 would do it!!!

mjl1717,
thank you very much

185 means how much in two digits??

(182 was equal to a 75)

  #15

The 75 doesnt change/ its that three digit number that changes!

Me too! Just got my score yesterday and got kinda frustrated coz my score was 182/74. Genetics and Anatomy really screwed me up. Well at least deep in my heart I know I passed, haha, I just have to try harder. Besides, a score of 75 will not look good on my transcript, most especially coz Im an IMG. Better luck (and more hard work!) next time!
