i had a question to the senior members and those who have been for interviews....now in some places i hear programs ask to present interesting cases...now wht exactly happens and does one have to prepare in advance and if so what kind of cases.

also by asking u to do that what are they trying to judge.

thanks

okay..lemme try to see if I can answer this quesiton which seems to bother many..

Well..one university program did ask me about an interesting case..worded innocently as...tell me about a patient who taught you something...

NOw this is a " make it or break it" question - you could either blow the interview or can sweep the interviewer off her/his feet.

Rule of thumb for this question is: dont over-riddle your answer with medical techno stuff - this aint IM boards so chill. I dont mean that you go down to colloquial slang to answer the question, I only wanna state that mention the patient characteristics, but dont go on like 5 mins on it. Key is to identify the main point you want to get accross (like WHY you chose this case) and weave your case around it. If you chose the case because it was a medical challenge - well, go for it! If you chose the case since it taught you something for life....well, equally good, but stick to the "life-lesson" stuff then.

If you are doing this thing right, you will probably not get a chance to complete your full description - the interviewer is most likely gonna interrupt you at some fine point and then,,,the discussion ensues.

At any rate, avoid a monologue...the interview is not the place to retaliate for that boring sunday mass sermon you had from yr apathetic preacher when ya were a kid. Do NOT go over 2-3 minutes at a stretch, even if the interviewer does not respond....find some filler or simply pause for a fraction of a second and re-evaluate the situation, in the unlikely event that you get the silent treatment.

Ok...I tire typing now...this is kinda from personal experience...I think it worked for me...go thou and do likewise or un-likewise...whatever works for you!

goodluck!!
