dear BBB and gang.....
is it ok to wear a dark brown suit and skirt with a pale yellow blouse to IVs especially in the northern cold parts of the country..or should I stick to light grey pant suit.....sorry for the vain question...thanks

madmadmadmadYou made that a fasion thread. By the way I am a man.madmadmadmad

But any way thanks for the advices, smiling face , for the record I decided to wear the black suit for the next interview.

As for the dinner, (Speaking about men here). I asked the Program coordinator and she said that it was an informal dinner. yet I wear the black suit, a gray shirt with no tie.

Dear BBB thank you for your great Posts in this forum you are really helpful , I think that (again for men) looking boring is better than looking strange.

as for kykie
I studied step1 from kaplan books (red them one time) then did usmle world (every question and studied the answers). then took the 4 nbme exam and searched for the question answer here in the forum and in books, I also did a couple of exams from step1 kaplan qbook . all that took me about 3 month. my real exam was more clinically oriented than nbme or usmleworld question.

I was in a hurry to take the exam so I can apply this year and needed my scores early. so I would have studied more ( although I did well thanks GOD. but I think I was some what lucky). for the record I was very good at basic sciences in med school esp anatomy and physio . so I heavily depended on what I remember. I don't know what is your case.

you can check my step1 experience, If you have further question please send me a Personal message I will be glad to helpsmiling face

No I didn't use kaplan DVDs for step1 (I did for most of step2 ck) . I read kaplan fast. the truth is I skipped most of anatomy and physio ( except neuro). As I said before, I relied on my good knowledge base I acquired through med school, our basic science curriculum was a killer. it was all in English and way more extensive than USMLE requirment (except that we didn't do much genetics and biostatistics).

Biostatistics, medical ethics and most of psychiatry is exactly the same questions as in step 2, even in kaplan books many chapters are identical, you don't need to memorize DSM/IV but you need to read it and understand it

Also step 2 prep should help you with most of Path and Pharm (esp side effects of drugs). in fact I personally studied path and pharm before step 2 and didn't review them before step 1.

my biggest problem was remembering biochemistry, and microbiology. you need to memorize the charts for bacteria and viruses. they are very important.

The most important Tip is do lots of Questions, I heard before I started preparing for the usmle that you can only study the questions and get 99. this may be true depending on your med school knowledge.

the second most important tip is that great scores are good . but not everything. try to do any research or work in your country or here try to do any publication including writing in your country mention everything you did no matter how small , get LORs from your country until you get some american . what I have found that an applicant with 90-95 score with LORs. and a couple of publication or research is better than 99 applicant with none. even though all has a chance

hi guys
great topic. each year we discuss on and on about fashion.

In one of my interviews the chief resident was commentng about that. Apparently when he went for his cardiology fellowship interview, which started very early in the morning. he accidentally wore one black and one blue sock. All thru day he was very consious, but no one ever noticed it.

so i think as bbb said grey is good for both men and womenwink hope I will be selected for something other than my dress code......

As long you look put together and professional - it's not going to matter what the color is. Would I wear a hot pink suit? No. But brown is a neutral - it's fine.

Boring better than strange? Yes, you are right. But how about the applicant with the great black suit and the brown shoes. No - that's strange. Or the black suit with the white sweat socks? Strange again.

All I am saying is that applicants don't have to feel that the black suit is the only option. It's not. Dress professional. Not like you are going to a funeral.

Good luck all.

Hey i always dress in black. i am not changing my black suit and black helmet. I would look ridiculous in a navy blue helmet, no no no.

I agree with bbb, the attitude will get me hired .

Now, I think the best choice should be a shiny black suit with longitudinal dull black stripes, white shirt, pink tie. something like this

PS: I'd never wear pink tie, even if I think the combination is marvelous, because I generally hate pink and I'd be mocked at by my friends who know my preferences.
