Hi, I apply for MATCH 2007 this year, but because I just got my Step 2 ck and cs score reported yesterday and some otehr visa issue, chance of matching this year might be little. If apply for california letter this year (my application is almost done, only usmle transcript left.) and I am not matched, can I use this california letter for MATCH 2008? Does CA letter have expiration date? Thank you very much for any reply.

You do need to renew it every year. But that is not much work. You can call the preson who takes charge of your file for more information. CA letter is also useful for fellowship application. So don't let it expire if you have it. There are many opportunities for IMG in CA.

Hi cd, Most programs in CA need California letter to apply for residency. You can go to www.ca.gov to search the documents about how to apply. You can search PTAL. It is not hard, but does take time, maybe 2-3 months totaly.

Hi cd, sorry for the delay. First, I think the application changed a little from last year. I didn't have fingerprint at all. Second, about the transcript, it has to be the original one with official seal. It means the transcript must come from your medical school with official seal or signature. Third, the diploma must be notarized and translated by professional translation agent.

Ooops, a mistake. I think I messed CA letter requirment with ECFMG one in above post. About the diploma, I mailed them the orignal one, and after verification they mailed it back to me.

L2 and L5 will be send from your school. If I'm not wrong you need to send to your school, not the medical board. Transcript need to be done from your school, and you need to request your med school to send to medical board. It can't be send from you. I don't understand your last question, except? They accept foreign graduates, but not all school are qualified. You would better check it yourself. Good luck!

I agree with kca. You yourself will send L2 and L5 to medical school. Make sure the clerkship rotation meet the CA board criteria. If your school has good system, you can ask school to print out an original one and mail it out with those forms. Most schools charge money for that. If the school doesn’t have a good system, you can mail one original transcript to the medical school and just let them to verify. CA board accepts most foreign medical school if they are on the ECFMG registry. I don't remember CA board has their own registry. CA board is flexible and when you have specific situation, you can always ask and negotiate with them. Someone even let the medical school mailed all forms and verified transcript to him and he mailed them to CA board. He did it after talking to CA board.

Unlike ECFMG, CA board will not send anything to your medical school for you. You need to send whatever is necessary to your school by yourself. Make sure your medical shool has somebody take care of this. It would be better if you ask somebody from your home country or even your medical school who has done this before. It really depends on your school.

hey Thanks EVEMIMI, one more thing i am confused about.. U said CA-board is flexible.. then in the clerkship form I have to write dates of attendance(M/D/Year).. Can I leave that place blank or can I write only the semesters out there.. cos we had one clinic in 3 different semester.. same with most of the clinical rotations.. so Can I leave it blank or will I have to right the exact date.. or should I ask someone from CA-Board about this?? and secondly.. do I need to have ECFMG certification before they start reviewing my aplication.. or i they will start reviewing my application without that ECFMG certification and I just have to update them when I get it??? Thanks u for all the help.

Hi paxyl171. I suggest you ask CA board about this. Maybe you can write down the dates seperately. If the total period is enough, it will count. But please check out with CA board. Not quite sure. I don't think CA letter application has anything to do with ECFMG certification. They do need step 1, 2 and CS if I remember correctly. So when the scores are reported, send them to CA board electronically.

For CA letter, you only need step 1 and step 2 CK and you you don't need step 2 CS or the ecfmg certificate.
