can u give me a rough idea on how the exam goes? check the cs video in the usmle cd and read first aid.the video will give u a very good idea abt the exam .they will give u paper,pad and pen and for each case u get rough paper which is collected by them at the end of each case .no timers but a warning is given when 5 min are left to finish the encounter. Time urself when u practice and eventually u shld be able to get everything in the case done in 15 min.once 15 min is over u come out and in 10 min u could either handwrite or type the case.then u move to the next case..i don’t exactly remember how many breaks were given but i think there was one long break after the first five cases and a short one later.
what instruments do u need to be familiar with? The cs video will show u all the instruments and they have an orientation bfore exam which is sufficient to try all the instruments
do u have to tell the SP what u are checking every time u do a test? i would recommend that u tell them everything such as which system,abt test as u do it and also tell them what u are checking in each test.that way ur interaction increase,u get time to think abt what u plan to do next just in case u get a thought block and u also become organized in ur examination.
do u need to take off the gown in males and females before starting PE? and how do u drape the sp? Uw shows u how to drape.only expose the part that u are examining nothing more.

Hi GV5,
Your experience and suggestion are very helpful. Have a few questions.
1. Know that lunch is provided by the test center. What kind of lunch is it? I am chosy a bit and don't like cheese and dressings. So I need to prepare something for myself if it is necessary.
2. Any coffee available? Any snack is provided during the second short break? 
3. You go through all first 5 cases straight without any break? What about if you want to pee between cases?

1. why dont u take some stuff u like for the exam.they give some fruits,coffee and sandwiches...why dont u check with the ecfmg abt the menu(just joking).
2. post orientation they do tell everyone to use the washroom before the exam begins .so plz use it then and hold on during the exam or else knowing how strict they are u may have to pee in ur pants.U shld ask them ur last q after the orientation,if not it will at least cheer everyone up.

thanks.the red screen is what u see when u do the oasis trick as the u have letters in red on the screen saying u cant apply as u ve already passed the exam
