Just read edie's journal. Didn' think it was right for me to write this on her journal but I will do it here..if she didn't do too well on the simulated then who the f*** is going to. This is freaking me out.

I have all my cramming to do. I can't remember any formulas. I still don't remember rate limiting enzymes. damn damn damn..

and this is taking too bloody long. did 25 questions of UW all tutor mode. I don't even want to share how much I got. May be I shud pack my bags and go trekking or some thing. sad

Ha, found ya! Yeah, it was disappointing, Med. My scores ranged from 52-62%. I was hitting the high 60s with Kap qbank. But I wasn't going for the q's as much as I was for the experience of doing the 7 blocks. As far as the q's on that test go, I found UW and Kaplan qbanks much much easier. Those simulated q's were so very...out there. The gimmes were too easy, the tuffies too tough and too many, and not enough middlers. But that's just me! So please don't let this discourage you! It isn't discouraging me, I just don't like having my ass handed to me by Kraplan, is all grin

Trekking's not a bad idea, Med, I'll do it with you, all over First Aid-Landnod Forward...MARCH!

Mytime: Oye you are just having a good time at my expense aren't you? Huh?huh?huh? :P

Hi Medocuk, I just come across and saw your last posts. Don't be so dissapointed. You still have time to do what you need to do. In my opinion, to face with the Beast, somethings we should have:

- Self-confidence. To have it, one should know where he/she is on by taking NBME and answer the Qs " Am I ready?" None can answer this Qs as well as can tell you about that, cause it is so subjective, but the obejective evaluation. It's not UW which sometimes has different trends of asking Qs in compare with the real exam and NBME. It is not Kap simulated test which is different kind of asking and evaluating ( test what you have learnt). The real exam and NBME test you what you have understood/known.

The 2nd Qs is " Which parts that I should improve to have a higher score in NBME?" The score of NBME and the performance which you can get from the online form will tell you that you are ready and which parts you should improve. If you feel that you don't know or even you don't understand the Qs and Ans, that's your knowledge problem (this case KLN helps). If you know about it, but you choose the wrong Ans, that the technical problem to solve a Qs. (in this case, FA and Qs bank help). You will see your improvement when you do the next NBME, therefore NBME serial taking (not killing!) is important.

The 3rd Qs is " What happens if I can't score high or if I can't solve all of the Qs". The target score, ofcourse, is up to you and your reality. You know what, before and right the day I went for the Exam, I told myself that none, except for the genius, knows all of the knowledge and choose all of the Ans right. I am a regular old doc, so it's natural if I can't score high. Keeping that in mind, I accepted the fact that I would be ignorance in about 30% or more, and finally that was true. Even now, if I can retake the test, I can't do better, believe me.

If your Ans are I am ready, I know what I can improve in the last 10 days, and I might not solve all of the Qs, but it's okay, you will be calm on the test. This is helpful for your SUPER CRAMING these days.

- Timing. This only requires your mind fresh, don't CRAM anything the night before you take the exam, and sleep well. Will you lack of time? the Ans is NO. Mark the unsure Qs and look it back later, after giving it a choice.

One more important things is reviewing NBME Qs. If you already took NBME all forms, you can use it as a revising tool, with subject wise Qs. I think these Qs generally represent what they need you know for the Test (the HY) and I also found that is true. Therefore you can review fast each subject everyday in your remaining days.

For conclusion, I have some words. This is not my exam experience, this is common sense for taking the test. I darenot tell my experience to anybody before I know that I pass. So please take it easy if you feel it weird.

Good luck to your CRAMMING, Medocuk. I believe you can do and change your thoughts into things.

All the best

(why I have long post? cause I love your post...smiling face )

Yuna: Thank you so much. For you to have made the effort to really put your thoughts down for me, provide me with new motivation and lots of inspiration. Thanks.

Acintya: I am studying. I know I can do this. I will do this.

OK cool. Im just going to start hemat. I think by 12 I shud be done. That is OK. Keep the RR and FA handy, you will have enough Q's to cough up.

  #742

So I did 50 UW questions mixrd tutor mode and I got 56% with the average score being 43% So I am super pleased with myself and wont bother with corrected score.

But I promise if only I was reading correctly I could have got another 6-8 questions right.

I am now going to move onto Hemat and Onc. I hope to do that by 2- 2:30

  #743

Before I go, here is a smart question I found at UW. patho..( out of my memory)

A young man has found a scrotal mass on self examination. On investigations you find the mass to be a malignant carcinoma and the patients TSH and T4 levels are raised. What tumor marker would you expect to be raised in this individual.
a. FSH
b. TRH
c. Beta HcG
d. CEA
f. Alfa feto protien.
