  #629

Hi there Med, what do you have planned for today?

  #630

I think I will complete the immuno I needed to revise and revise all of biochemichal reactions.

Do 60 odd immuno questions. 50 path questions and 60 biochem questions. Fingers crossed. I shall make me a cup of coffee and get started.

I had the best possible weekend with my girl friend and I am so refreshed.smiling face

  #631

Glad you got that refreshing break! Isn't it fun to hang out with a good friend! Now you can be extra productive from tomorrow.

Have a great week! smiling face

  #638

Hey Medocuk,

24 days is a long time nodBUT every minute counts as u know.

  #639

Mytime: You are a funny girl, and that is all I have to say about that. smiling face

Edie: Thanks a ton. It is such a boost to know some one is watching your back.

Study499: Thanks for the confidence. smiling face

I slept off early last night. I was just exhausted. I think being up for 16-17 hours I am done. I don't studying for more than 8-10 hours so I am not sure how the rest of the time just flies past.

Anyway I will complete Biochem today and do lots of questions.

QUESTION:
For the sake a choice at USMLE STEP ONE EXAM:

DR2/3? For Good Pasteurs?
DR3/4? For DM?
DR2/3 For SLE?

  #640

haha....same question I asked ya...how does the time fly?? and you were asking me what I do for the 14 hrs that I have grin

All that studying definitely exhausts you...its not feasible to sustain that kind of effort I mean 16 hrs per day of studying...you are doing the right thing by 8-10 hrs on a consistent basis smiling face

  #641

Well guys,I think u should be glad u'll have 16-18hrs to spend on studying.I'm struggling to get by with 3-4 hrs of study. But yeah, like Acintya said 8-10hrs is good enough. The rest of the time is needed for consolidation of info. Study hard & not hardly study(that is esp for me)

HA ha ha Acintya: I asked you that in reference to what you don't get to do for which you are stuck with G. *hint hint*

P2B: I know what you mean, when I was working I just didn't get the time. I don't have a demanding husband inlaws or a child. I really have no excuse except I am human too and i have needs and moods and good days and bad days. my point being there are no comparisons or measure of each one's plight.

  #643

Hi Med, I have declared today as the official holiday for doing questions, I see you have your daily festivities planned, also with our beloved biochem grin Happy Questions Day smiling face

  #644

Med, check your PMs wink

  #645

hi medocuk..
you get AMC id when you apply for ERAs token.. then you get it wit a password.. where you can work on your applications nline on aamc site.. by this AAMC id ERAs post office identifies IMGs through out the application process..
hope it answers your Qn...
& re my exam.. you must have seen hw poorly I have been doing this whole month of august I have postponed it till early oct.. stil not sure I when I will give it as my prep not going as I expected earlier.. anyways

Use you last days wisely.. I know how moods play the game at this last time . but try to study only study without any worrys of other things,. all can wait..nodnod
so good luck & happy studying!!

Kitty: Yeah that is why I was wondering? Anyway you have done well in the past, I am sure you will do well in the future. You need to find the right time and space to do your thing.Thank you so much for the info.

I have completed Purine metabolism, amino acid metabloism and lipid metablism. Need to do glucose and everything associated with it. Then I shall attack questions.

  #647

ok ok I got the *hint* grinsticking out tonguebut what to do!! Life's like that! rolling eyes

and yeah P2b, I totally second Medoc, there is absolutely NO yardstick to compare our situationsshaking head.....we all have our own demons to slay! apart from MLE that is

I did 25 questions anyway just to give me a boost. I did 13 right which corresponds to 52%. A lil disappointing at this stage. But Im going to complete biochem and then read goljan nutrition notes and do 35 more questions before I sleep.

  #649

Hey A: how is it coming along?

  #650

Courtesy Jack of knives from the biochem forum. felt this is very useful, hence posting it here with my own modifications.

Inside Fibroblasts/osteoblasts/chondroblasts {Q. where does collagen synthesis take place?}

In RER lumen:
Prepro alpha chains containing hydrophobic ends are synthesized by ribosomes attached to RER.

Hydrophobic signal sequence is removed by signal peptidases in RER to form pro-alpha chains.

Hydroxylation of proline and lysine resideues occurs cotranslationally by prolyl and lysyl hydroxylases (before assembly of a triple helix). Cofactors are Fe2+ and ascorbate.{ Deficiency- scurvy}

Proline hydroxylation is important for stabilization, lysine hydroxylation provides sites for specific glycosylation in the ER.

Glycosylation of specific hydroxylysines.

Here polypeptide chains has completed.

In cytoplasm:
Triple helix assembly (procollagen) , this include formation of disulfide bonds, winding etc.

Golgi:
Modification of the oligosaccharide continues. Some sulfation, phosphorylation, not important.

In extracellular space:
Conversion of procollagen to collagen.

Amino and carboxyl terminal propeptides are cleaved by proteases to form collagen ( aka tropocollagen)

Triple helices assembil into fibrils, crossing linking involves lysyl oxidase involved which requires Oxygen and Copper.( Cu deficieny can get you questions here)

Fibrils aggregate and cross-link to form collagen fibres.
